Couple enjoying pancake day in their home

Pancake Day is creeping up on us, and whether you like your pancakes sweet or savoury, fluffy or thin, they allow you to be as creative as you want with your recipes. But arguably your choice of topping is the most important part, so which ones your favourite? Are you a Nutella lover, maple syrup gorger, whipped creamer, banana and berries or a classic sugar and lemon topper?

What is pancake day? Pancake Day is a traditional feast day 40 days before the lead up to Easter, although the name of the day varies where you in the world - from ‘Mardi Gras’ in USA and France to ‘Shove Tuesday’ in Brazil and Italy - in one way or another the day is celebrated by many. Traditionally, the period of time between Pancake Day and Easter is used as a time of fasting, and many people choose to give up rich, sweet (naughty!?) foods in this period – so it makes complete sense, we stuff out faces the day before this starts!

Let’s strip everything back and look at a classic pancake recipe. Pancakes are quick and cheap to make – all you’ll need is egg, flour, milk and of course any toppings your hearts desires. Wisk all the ingredients up into a smooth batter, then pour into a flying pan over a medium heat until golden brown. Eat as many as pancakes as you want at your own risk!

We understand sometimes the simplest tasks can be the most difficult and if you struggle with motor mobility in your hands, but still want to make pancake day to be a day to remember we have a range of kitchen aids available – from Utensil sets to help with grip and improved independence to jar openers, and bowls to aid your pancake-making process.

However, you choose to celebrate pancake day just make sure you devour lots of them!
