We are proud to support MS Society & Parkinson’s UK with Scooter Safety Day
This entry was posted in General November 7, 2019We are really proud that our Northwich team were able to support The MS Society Vale Royal and West Cheshire Group and local Parkinson’s UK group to provide local residents a Scooter Safety Day at Weaverham Community Centre, in Northwich.
The MS Society Vale Royal and West Cheshire Group were keen to run a scooter safety day for the members of their group and we are really pleased we were able to help. Scooter safety is something we encourage as an ethical trader. We get lots of customers who have been given scooters from friends or brought online but don’t have the confidence to use them. We also have customers thinking of purchasing but want some extra reassurance that they can drive it safely, so these sessions are invaluable.
We are really pleased we could support 2 local groups in giving them a hands on experience at using mobility aids. We took along a range of scooters, from smaller boot scooters to road scooters, we well as powerchairs for the attendees to try. Alongside MS Society UK and Parkinson’s UK there were plenty of willing participants that got involved and had a go on the scooter test track, with our guidance and support.
There were plenty of questions answered and lots of advice given in relation to the different types of mobility scooters and what type would best fit to individual needs. However, it was not just mobility scooters on show, we also brought along a wide range of products that can help to make it easier living with MS or Parkinson’s such as; Adjustable Folding Walking Sticks, Grab Rails, Reachers, Kettle Tippers, Easy Grip/Bendable Cutlery Sets and Jar and Tin Openers.
There was also an Ableworld engineer on hand to offer free mobility health checks so a number of the attendees had their own scooter or mobility aid checked and were extremely grateful when their issues were resolved.
The session received great feedback from Brenda Brockbank, Lead Support Volunteer for MS Society Vale Royal and West Cheshire Group, who stated that “All attendees really enjoyed themselves and the members who had their own equipment checked were really grateful for the help. Overall, the scooter safety session massively helped to give confidence to those that require mobility aids but were too nervous or not confident enough to use a mobility scooter out in public. “
