How to deal with shorter days - Banish that January feeling

This entry was posted in General January 14, 2022

Staying connected with others
Are you feeling the lug of January?

After all the glitter and baubles of December, on comes January, a long month which some can find to be simply exhausting. Catching up and socialising with family and friends can feel somewhat a chore after the excitement and highs of the festive months.  Then comes heading back to work, kids back to school and an endless cycle of cold, dark icy mornings – scraping the ice from your car 10 minutes before you have to leave. January blues – guess it is a thing after all – good job we’ve got a few tips to help you with dealing with those shorter, darker days!

Give yourself something to look forward to

This can be as simple as planning to go for a coffee at your local coffee shop with your friends – getting both of you out of the house. Or booking a holiday getaway with your partner for some much-needed winter sun on your skin – even if it’s a holiday for a years’ time, taking these steps to plan the holiday flights and accommodation, can help you escape your winter blues.

Stay connected with others

Pick up the phone and call your family for a catch-up – lighten your load and talk through everything that’s on your mind, it can make the dark days just that little bit lighter. With the internet and ever-growing ways of staying connected it's easier than ever to keep up to date with everything’s that going on in your friends and family’s lives. So, prop up your tablet on your dining room table and enjoy Sunday dinner together – even if you’re not in close proximity doesn’t mean you have to feel miles apart.

Treat yourself

Long dark days call for an excuse to treat yourself. Treat yourself to a SAD Lamp, designed to ease the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Or a great gift for someone to boost their morale and switch their mentality to a more positive one.

Go outside

Spend some time outside – even if it's just 10 minutes a day in the winter wind, do some gardening, go on a winter walk around your local park, or take the dog around your estate. So, wrap up warm and get out your walking boots – the winter air is calling you.

Hopefully, some of these tips are helpful and after reading this your January can be a positive month of spending time with family and friends whilst also taking time for yourself. And we hope to see you in your local Ableworld store soon.
