Ableworld Stockport 5th Birthday

Five years ago, Ableworld opened their 31st Ableworld store in Stockport, Greater Manchester, which came as an exciting addition to the North West area. Since then, our Stockport store has gone from strength to strength, helping various customers in the local community regain their independence.

Based on Buxton Road, our Stockport team have had a busy 5 years, including helping the local community with sponsorships, scooter proficiency sessions, free giveaways and more. Our team have also formed close relationships with local care homes and the local Stepping Hill Hospital.

Our team at Ableworld Stockport continuously go above and beyond for their customers and are subsequently often receiving excellent feedback, letters and Thank you cards. Some recent feedback received online has been “The two ladies could not have been more helpful and knowledgeable of how to best help my request, I felt they both went above and beyond to help me with my enquiry and would highly praise both staff for their professionalism.” We are thrilled to have a friendly and energetic team at our Stockport store who have brilliant product knowledge.

To celebrate the 5-year store milestone, our Stockport store hosted week-long celebrations in store, including free refreshments and prizes available to be won. Customers were able to win vouchers, free pocket magnifiers and even a giant teddy bear through a fun game available to play for free. Our Stockport team were delighted to celebrate with their regular and new customers in what was a fantastic celebration of their 5 years of the store opening.

At Ableworld all of our stores strive to help as many customers as they can with excellent service and knowledgeable staff in-store. Since our Stockport store opening, a further 7 stores have been opened with more to be opened later in 2022.

Ableworld looks forward to the next 5 years of Ableworld Stockport and what this will bring.

Stress Awareness Month

Stress Awareness Month

What is stress?

First and foremost, we just want to make it clear stress is not always a bad thing, were all human, and we’ve all experienced in one way or another stress in our lives - it’s a natural state. Stress is your body’s way of trying to process an event that has happened or going to happen and work out how best to overcome it. And since it's National Stress Awareness Month, here at Ableworld we thought it was the perfect opportunity to talk about the self-care tips and tricks we use to help reduce stress in our lives.

  1. Getting a good night’s sleep is the first step you can make towards lessening the stress you feel in your life and is something so incredibly important for your health. Although this may seem impossible since every time your head hits the pillow your mind runs into overdrive – ensuring you turn your phone off an hour before bed, relaxing your body and muscles (reading a book or journaling) and keeping the room dark to block light coming in, are all ways which can make it easier for you to fall sleep.
  2. Eating well and staying hydrated are some of the foundations that build up our health and wellbeing. And poor eating patterns may be the cause of your low moods, so improving your diet may not only protect your physical health but also the mental implications a low mood can cause. Adopting a healthier balanced diet can contribute to a more positive outlook on life’s challenges, as even studies have found stress and nutrition are a two-way street.
  3. Another way to control stress levels is to exercise. Exercising can lead to so many physical benefits but it doesn’t have to stop there, exercising can lead to so many mental benefits like increased levels of self-esteem and motivation. This could be as simple as tidying up your house or gardening or going for a walk – all contribute to better and more active wellbeing. You can view our Exercise and Therapy range here.
  4. But the main thing you can do when you are stressed is recognise it, and look after yourself. Don’t take on too much and feel overwhelmed, don’t over-exhaust yourself – just say no. Learning to say no is self-care. Make time for yourself and if you feel like saying no, say no – it's not a crime.
Look after yourself. Be in control of your life. Have fun.

British Disability Darts Association

Ableworld is thrilled to be sponsoring the British Disability Darts Association (BDDA) which is running a national competition for disabled darts players.

Our sponsorship has ensured that there will be a prize fund for the 4 tournaments held this weekend. Our goal is to bring more exposure to this sport and make it accessible for all players, we are working closely with the BDDA to see how we can help to provide mobility equipment for future tournaments.

The British Disability Darts Association was set up in 2015 to help and support those with disabilities to play darts. They organise tournaments for disabled players and their aim is to make the Sport of Darts a true "Sport for All".

This weekend they will be running their annual tournament The Winmau Classic and Open 2022, this tournament has now been running for 7 years.

The tournament is being held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April 2022 at St Helens Darts Academy, Sidac Sports and Social Club, Wheatsheaf Avenue, Sutton Leach, St Helens, Merseyside, WA9 4PJ. The doors open at 10 am on Saturday and 11 am on Sunday.

At Ableworld, we love to support as many charities and partnerships as possible within our local communities. We wish the best of luck to all of those taking part in the tournament.
