Change your life with FSDP.
Here at Ableworld, we strive to provide caring solutions for our customers helping them to enjoy greater independence and live more comfortable and active lives. We have recently been supporting Flying Scholarships for disabled people, (FSDP) and their mission much like ours is to inspire people with disabilities to change their lives.
FSDP has helped change over 400 men and women’s lives, by experiencing the joy of freedom in the sky, learning new skills, regaining confidence and ‘’reaching for the sky.’’ The charity was set up as a memorial tribute to Sir Douglas Bader, who after losing both his legs in an air accident in 1931, persisted in his efforts to resume his flying career with the RAF. His love and dedication to flying are what brought this charity to life. His story along with so many others like it are bringing about a positive change to disabled people’s lives every year through life-changing aviation experiences.
FSDP provide scholarships to anyone aged 18 or over and registered as disabled. You must be a resident in the UK and be allowed to drive by the DVLA. Applications for this truly unique experience close on the 31st of January 2022, but don’t hesitate to apply for 2023 and get your wings next year instead. The scholarship is a three or four-week training program which includes a maximum of 20 hours of flying tuition. During this time, you will stay in a nearby hotel along with a fellow scholar, and you will gain so much through the whole process from making new friends to reaching new heights with your growing confidence. After the scholarship, you will be presented with a certificate at a ceremony at the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT). You will also be invited back to RIAT the following year to be awarded your ‘pilot’s wings. To apply go to fsdp.co.uk/apply.
We are incredibly proud and honoured at Ableworld to be able to work with such an inspirational charity that help so many people every year who have otherwise painful and debilitating physical constraints - to discover a new lease of life and realise what they CAN do, rather than what they CAN’T.
If you want to know any more information about the charity, scholarships or even to potentially sponsor them you can visit their website here.
Ableworld look forward to working closely with FSDP and building our relationship further in 2022!
